| Property acquisition for PET Care Campus complete - Cookeville Herald Citizen Posted: 22 Apr 2012 02:08 AM PDT PUTNAM COUNTY -- Friends of Cookeville/Putnam County Animals is pleased to announce that the acquisition of property for the proposed P.E.T. Care Campus has finally been completed. The overall vision for the P.E.T. Care Campus, (which stands for Pets Education and Training), is a specially designed pet friendly environment that will provide many benefits for both the people and the pets of our community. "This was a complex transaction that took much longer than anticipated to conclude, but we are thrilled with the outcome," says Linda Westin, President of the Friends group. "We are all so appreciative of the many, many donors who supported this acquisition and who were so patient throughout the purchase process. We are grateful to all of our business and corporate donors, and to the many private donors, large and small alike -- right down to the small boy at the Animal Shelter who donated the almost $1 in his pocket to help the animals." To be located just off Gainesboro Grade on 9.75 acres adjacent to Hyder-Burks Pavilion, the P.E.T. Care Campus will maintain a park-like environment and be compatible to the adjoining area. This unique project will be the home of a new Cookeville/Putnam County Animal Shelter, a Humane Society of Putnam County Spay/Neuter Clinic and the Marion & Roger Moore Dog Park, the community's first off-leash dog park. "Through the Gwendolyn Sawyer bequest and other funding, this is an opportunity for us to build a much needed new animal shelter that will be a tremendous asset to our community," said City Manager, Jim Shipley. As a collaborative project with the City of Cookeville, Putnam County, the Humane Society of Putnam County, Tennessee Tech University and Friends of Cookeville/Putnam County Animals, the P.E.T. Care Campus will be an education and information resource center, as well as, a place for pet owners to come and have fun with their pets.
